WebDAV Support
[Download Word Document]
WebCT 3.8 supports WebDAV for site designers. WebDAV
stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and
Versioning." It allows users to edit and manage
files on remote web servers using a drag-and-drop interface.
This means you can now manage your WebCT files almost
as easily as managing files on your own computer.
WebDAV has two basic uses in WebCT. One is to move files
in and out of the "my Files" area. The other
is to download and upload course backups. Please note
that (a) there is no WebDAV support for students, and
(b) although you can move files into your WebCT course
site, you still must link to these files using the Single
Page or Content Module tools for students to see them.
Using WebDAV, you can create a "Web folder"
on your desktop for your WebCT files that is very similar
to the other folders on your computer, and add, delete,
rename, or edit files on your WebCT site just as you
would if the files were on your computer. You will no
longer need to zip and unzip folders of content if you
export PowerPoint presentations into HTML or move content
folders from other Web sites — you can just drag
and drop the folders into your Web folder.
You can also use WebDAV to publish entire sites directly
to WebCT if you use Macromedia Dreamweaver version 4.0
or later.
This document will explain how to set up a Web folder,
and how to use WebDAV with Dreamweaver. We also provide
a few tips about using WebDAV safely and provide further
resources.
Set a WebDAV Password
Step 1: Log in to WebCT using the WebCT Login option
under the Quick Links menu above, or click the Site
Log In link in the upper right hand corner of this page.
Step 2: Click the WebDAV Info link at the top of your
MyWebCT page.
Step 3: Type your desired password in the New Password
box. You will see only asterisks (*****).
Step 4: Type your desired password again in the Confirm
New Password box.
Step 5: Click the Update link.
The WebDAV password is independent of your regular
WebCT password. Changes to your WebCT password (which
will be the same for all University of Minnesota services
using x.500 authentification, such as one stop and e-mail)
will not affect your WebDAV password or vice-versa.
You may choose to use the same password for both accounts.
You may reset your WebDAV password at any time, even
if you forget your old WebDAV password.
Set up a Web Folder

format:

Step 5: Select the URL of the area you wish to access
via WebDAV and copy it to your clipboard using the Edit

of paper.
