MICHELLE MASON (Ph.D. University of Chicago, 2001) specializes in ethics, moral psychology, and theories of practical reason. She has received fellowships from the McKnight Foundation (University of Minnesota McKnight Land-Grant Professorship for 2005-2007), Harvard University's Center for Ethics and the Professions (Faculty Fellow in Ethics, 2002-2003), and Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation (Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellow, 1999-2000), as well as research support from the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Her current research examines the shape that a successful defense of the rationality of moral action, centered on the concept of a practical virtue, might take. Among her more general interests in moral psychology is a concern to better understand attitudes that take persons as their intentional objects; some of her recent work in this area includes investigations of contempt and shame as moral attitudes.
